Back to the Future – the musical, London

Back to the Future the Musical is currently on at the Adelphi Theatre in the West End, it is the characters you will recognise from the film but with a slightly different storyline to make it work on the stage and singing and dancing.

Visually the whole things is stunning from start to finish, the theatre is themed perfectly and the set and stage is a work of art. There are many moments in the film that we wondered how they would translate to the stage but they managed them all brilliantly with some very special, special effects.

It isn’t just the film on stage but has its own personality with lots of unexpected moments of humour and brilliant choreography.

The music by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard was good but I didn’t find it as catchy as some of the other musicals we have seen. It does include some of the film’s classic like The Power of Love, Johnny B. Goode, Earth Angel and Back in Time.

The cast were also wonderful and they managed to bring the roles from screen to life whilst also putting their own stamp on each character. We loved Marty and Doc Brown and their on stage chemistry!

We visited in May 2023 when Pip was 11.
