Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort and Spa

As usual when it comes to choosing hotels, I come up with a plan and Andy sorts out the details including the hotels. This was such a lovely surprise, he really did a great job with choosing this one.

The Sofitel is on the south coast of the island opposite Sentosa golf club. It’s set away from the main Universal resort area and the central beach area so it is tranquilly quiet and like staying in an exotic oasis!

The hotel:

The buildings are set out around the most beautiful luscious green gardens with ponds and sculptures. There is even a small pond that you can sit with your feet in where tiny fish will nibble your toes.

The hotel has the usual facilities breakfast buffet, gym, bar, restaurants and pool.

We had a luxury room in one of the blocks, there are also several other room categories with an option of larger rooms, suites and even villas and bungalows. We had a large double bed and then an extra bed for Pip. They had originally put a baby cot in the room for Pip but changed it within 5 minutes of me pointing out the mistake to the front desk. The room had lots of space, tea making facilities and a fridge.

The pool area is surrounded by greenery and has a large pool, sunbeams and a pool bar.

The food:

Breakfast is served in the restaurant at the front of the hotel and has a huge selection of food including food stations that will cook food to order for you. You have the choice of sitting indoors or outside while you enjoy what could have been a 7 course breakfast if we had had room for all that food. I especially liked the egg system of filling out a slip with your table number and how you like your eggs cooked and which they then bring over to you.

Lunch is available in the main restaurant, to order by the pool or as a takeaway.

Dinner can be eaten in either of the restaurants one of which serves more traditionally Asian food and the other Italian.

The bar also serves food throughout the day.

Around the hotel:

There isn’t much within walking distance from the hotel although you can walk to the beach but it isn’t a short walk.

Bus B also stops right outside the entrance to the hotel.

Getting there and getting around:

We got a taxi from our hotel in Singapore over to Sentosa which was really easy and not too expensive. If you have proof that you are staying on the island then you do not have to pay the island fee when you arrive.

There is a shuttle bus that the hotel provides free of charge. This goes to and from Harbourfront MRT and you could use this to get to the hotel.

We used the free Sentosa transport to get around the island which was very easy and very frequent. Bus B goes past the entrance to the hotel every 15 minutes and we took this to Beach Station and then the Sentosa Express in to Resorts World Station. These felt really safe even when we were getting the bus later at night. This worked better for us than the hotel’s shuttle bus as it took us in the Resorts World where Universal and the water park are.

Our thoughts:

The hotel is beautiful and the staff all very friendly and couldn’t do enough to help us. We really enjoyed our stay here and would pick it again. however it isn’t near anything so there was always travel involved if we wanted to get some food or go out and do anything. If you are wanting to be right in the middle of the action then a hotel closer to the beach or Resorts World may be better, but for rest and relaxation in a beautiful setting then this hotel is perfect.
