Universal Studios Singapore – Sentosa Island, Singapore.

Universal Studios Singapore is a smaller version of the other Universal Sites around the world so is easily doable in one day. It is also full of character meets and rides and was a great day out. The bonus being the park only opens 11am – 6pm so need need to get up early to be first in the queue.

6 Zones

Universal Studios Singapore is split in to 6 zones; Hollywood, Far Far Away, The Lost World, Ancient Egypt, Sci-fi City and New York.

Hollywood

Hollywood is home to most of the shops and the character meets for Gru and the Minions, Po and master Tigress and Madagascar.

Far Far Away

Far Far Away is home to Shrek and his friends with Shrek 4-D Adventure (which was very funny), Enchanted Airways, Magic Potion Spin, Puss in Boots’ Giant Journey and the Dance for the Magic Beans. There are also character meets with Shrek and Princess Fiona. The only ride we did in this area was Shrek 4-D Adventure as everything else seemed to be quite tame or aimed at younger guests and we were running out of energy.

The Lost World

We got to the Lost World around lunch time so stopped here for lunch. Here there is Canopy Flyer, Dino-Soarin’, Jurassic Park River Adventure. The character meets are the Raptor Encounter and Hatched!

Jurassic Park River Adventure is a rapids ride so is different from the ride in Florida and we definitely got wetter on it including very wet shoes. The Hatched character meet was very cute.

Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt is home to Revenge of the Mummy and Treasure Hunters. We missed out on riding the Mummy in Florida as it was closed so were really pleased that we got to ride it in Singapore. There didn’t seem to be a lot else going on in this area but I think there was still some Covid closures, aside from that the theming is amazing!

Sci-Fi City

Sci-Fi City houses Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN, Battlestar Galactica: CYLON, Accelerator, Transformers the Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle and character meets for the Transformers. This is definitely where you want to be if you are looking for fast thrill rides.

We waited in the Express pass queue in the morning and waited a really long time. You aren’t allowed to take anything on the ride so had no phone or anything to keep us busy and Pip got really bored. Annoyingly we went back at the end of the day and walked straight on to the ride with no wait and then went straight back on afterwards with only a short wait.

New York

New York is the land of Lights, Camera, Action! Hosted by Stephen Speilberg, Sesame Street Spahetti Space Chase and Rhythm Truck 2.0 as well as character meets for Sesame Street.

Tickets

Tickets are available on the Resort World Sentosa website but it’s also worth shopping around as you can sometimes get combined tickets with other attractions.

Express Passes

There are 2 types of Express Pass, the normal Express Pass that allows you one ride on each of the rides with express lanes and the Express Unlimited Pass for unlimited rides.

We had the Express Pass and it was useful to ensure that we got on all the rides that we wanted. There were some rides with short queues that we would have walked straight on to whether we had had the passes or not and others that we waited for a really long time even with the Express Pass (Jurassic Park and Battlestar Galactica: CYCLON in particular). I think it depends on what time of year you go and which rides are on your wish list as to whether it is worth it.

Lockers

There are lockers you can pay for if you want to take a bigger bag in to the park but not carry it around all day. Some of the bigger rides, particularly The Mummy and Battlestar Galactica do not allow you to take anything on the ride with you and they will run a metal detector over you as you enter the queue to make sure you don’t have anything in your pockets. These rides have free lockers next to them for use while you are in the queue.

Food

There are various food outlets around the park so whatever you fancy, you will probably be able to get it. We were really impressed by the food as it wasn’t just the usual theme park food but lots of Asian food options as well. Having said that we ate at Fossil Fuel where we had hot dogs and fries, mainly because that is where we were when it started raining and we were hungry.

You can find a full list of food outlets here.

Pushchairs and baby friendly spaces

Pushchairs and wheelchairs are available to hire from the entrance to the parks. Details here as well as information about nursing rooms and baby changing spaces.

Character Meets

There are plenty of opportunities to meet characters around the park and we didn’t find the queues too bad. The character meeting points are all around the park.

Shopping

The shopping opportunities are extensive with plenty of opportunities to buy merchandise and clothing.

Getting there

You can use any of the Sentosa transport to get to Universal which is at Resorts World station. The area outside Universal has the shops, restaurants, casino, aquarium and water park. We found this area really busy at the start and end of the day but quieter at other times.

Weather

We had a mostly sunny day for our visit although there was a rain storm around lunch time. There were plenty of areas to shelter from the rain and it wasn’t cold.

We visited in April 2023 when Pip was 10.
