Bahia Principe Sunlight Costa Adeje – Tenerife

Bahia Principe Sunlight Costa Adeje may have the longest name ever for a hotel but it is also an all inclusive resort in the Playa Paraiso area of the Costa Adeje in Tenerife. It sits next door to its sister hotel the Bahia Principe Sunlight Tenerife and is part of the Bahia Principe hotel chain. We had a 7 night stay in August 2023.

Our Room

We had a double room on the 4th floor of block 4 facing the pool. The room had an extra bed for Pip which seemed quite comfortable and still left plenty of space. There was a good amount of storage space in the wardrobe and a nice sized bathroom.

We had a lovely sized balcony with a table and 2 chairs which was great for storing inflatables and drying swimwear.

The Resort

This is the larger hotel of the two and is set in to the hillside with views down the the sea. The reception and buffet restaurant are at the top of the hill and the swimming pools towards the bottom with the accommodation laid out on each side. Each accommodation block is a slightly different colour or architectural design giving the feel of a village rather than a large hotel.

The Pools

There are two pools on site, the larger main pool which is split in to two halves by a walk way and an infinity pool at the bottom of the resort over looking the sea. The main pool is where all the entertainment activities take place such as the foam party, inflatables, aqua aerobics and water carpet. There is also usually music playing during the day. The infinity pool is quieter and smaller. Both pools have sun beds around and the infinity pool also has the Privilege Club sun beds and 3 Balinese Beds which can be hired for the day.

There is also a smaller shallow children’s pool which also has sun beds around it.

It’s worth noting that rubber ring inflatables are allowed in the pool but not lilos or other inflatables and the lifeguards are fairly strict about this.

Food

There are plenty of food options at the hotel. The Buffet restaurant, El Mirador is open for breakfast (7:30 – 10:00), lunch (13:00-15:00) and dinner (18:30-22:00). The buffet serves a wide range of choice at all meals including a big salad bar, a selection of meats and cheeses, cooked items and dessert items. Each evening has a theme, usually a different cuisine although there is always a children’s section and a pizza and pasta station.

There is also a snack bar at the infinity pool which has a small salad bar, pizza and serves a selection of hot dogs and burgers ordered at the bar. This opens 10:00- 18:00.

There are also 4 speciality restaurants which can be booked during your stay. There are Mexican and Asian restaurants which are located at the sister hotel and then Italian and a Grill located near the main pool. You can book 3 visits during a 7 night stay, 4 during a 10 night stay and 6 during a 14 night stay. Our favourite was the Mexican where we were presented with frozen margaritas when we arrived and the food was delicious.

Drinks

There are bars all over the resort. The main bar is below the lobby which serves cocktails, an assortment of drinks and barista coffees. This is open from 10:00-23:00.

There is a bar at the main pool and also one at the infinity pool, these serve beers, sangria, soft drinks and slushies and are open from 10:00-18:00.

A cocktail bar is open every evening in front of the Italian restaurant from 18:30-22:30.

Entertainment

The entertainment team work very hard, there is usually something happening next to the main pool for children or families during the day including a foam party every Saturday. There is also live music every evening on the terrace in front of the buffet restaurant.

The village square between the two hotels has entertainment in the evening and also a kids club open during the day.

There is a Games room next to the main bar which has a selection of games including air hockey, basketball and arcade games. There is a change machine in the games room.

On Friday night there is a party down by the infinity pool with music and entertainment.

Exercise

There is an indoor gym and squash court as well as a small outdoor gym. Next door at the sister hotel there is a tennis court and crazy golf course. There is also a table tennis table and Pool table down by the infinity pool.

Spa

The hotel has a spa which offers a variety of beauty treatments and massages which can be charged to your room. Pip and I had massages which were lovely.

You can find a list of the treatments on offer here.

Shopping

The hotel has an excellent shop selling everything you could need, some clothing and some lovely toys and souvenirs. They have a good range of toiletries and sun cream. There is a shop in each hotel, both selling very similar items. There is also a jewellery shop.

There is a shop in the Village Square selling a huge range of souvenirs and snacks, there is also a herbal pharmacy. For an actual pharmacy you will need to go over to near the Hard Rock Hotel.

Excursions and Car Rental

Next to the gym you will find an excursions desk which sells trips to the major attractions in Tenerife. It’s not open all the time but there was someone there everyday while we were there.

There is also a car rental desk, again not open all the time.

The Village Square

There is a village square between the two hotels that has evening entertainment, bars, shops and the kids club, there is also an Indian restaurant. None of the bars or the restaurant here are included in the AI package.

Bahia Principe Sunlight Tenerife

This is the sister hotel next door, it is a smaller hotel with junior suites as well as rooms. The Tenerife is a very short walking distance and you are able to use the bar, pool and facilities. The Asian and Mexican restaurants are located here.

Location

The hotel is fairly rural and there isn’t anything nearby except some other holiday villas. A ravine runs down the side of the hotel and on the other side is the H10 Hotel and past that the Hard Rock hotel. To get to these you can walk down the ravine and up the other side. There are also a couple of bars and restaurants in this area. The Hard Rock hotel has a rooftop bar which is meant to be fabulous for watching the sunset.

Siam Park is a 15 minute drive away and next to a shopping centre. The airport is about a 20 minute transfer away.

Accessibility

The resort is large and spread out over several levels so not ideal for those with mobility difficulties. There are lots of lifts around the resort so the stairs shouldn’t be a problem but the distance between the top and bottom of the resort is big.

Our thoughts

An all inclusive is not our usual type of holiday and we liked this hotel because the entertainment was optional, we spent most of our time by the infinity pool where it was quieter. It was great for a switch off and relax trip and the location for Siam Park was good.

The hotel is slightly older and some areas are a little bit tired, however it isn’t tatty and it is obviously well maintained.

The food was good and plentiful and the option of booking the speciality restaurants makes a great change from the buffet. As usual the vegetarian options were ok but very vegetable based, lots of vegetables with different sauces.

We had great weather with beautiful sunshine and a nice breeze most days, the temperature was mid to high 20s.
