Tomb Raider The Live Experience

*Tomb Raider Live is currently closed – you can still experience The Crystal maze live which is run by the same company*

We’re always on the lookout for something fun to do that is a little different from the usual tourist activities, this was a really brilliant way to fill a couple of hours and a great excuse to visit Camden Market.

The Game

Tomb Raider the Live Experience is probably best described as the Crystal Maze meets an escape room with a Lara Croft theme. The game involves moving from country to country using a very sophisticated portal system, fighting baddies, collecting stones and solving puzzles. It is a great mix of physical activities, brain teasers and logic, each having a slightly different theme. The experience also includes live actors who bring the adventure to life, give you hints along the way and tell the story. The puzzles and activities are varied so there will definitely be something that each person in your group can take the lead on.

What you need to know

  • Each team will be made up of up to 10 players. If you are in a group smaller than 10 then you will probably join another group to play. We were with another family of 5 and a couple and at each part of the game there were enough activities that we could work as a family on one while other groups worked on something else.
  • You don’t need to be super fit but there were some more physical activities such as zip lining, crawling through small spaces and uneven ground. Wearing comfortable shoes and clothes is recommended. There are opt outs for all the physical parts but if you aren’t sure whether you will be able to manage them then I would recommend contacting the game directly.
  • You don’t need to have watched the Lara Croft films in order to follow the story line but it will help set the scene if you can.

The logistics

  • The game is for ages 9+ and recommended for those age 12+ because of the content. Pip was 11 when she played. Players also need to be at least 1.1m tall for some of the activities.
  • Bags and coats are not allowed in the game. There are free lockers to leave your things in but they are small so wouldn’t fit a large backpack.
  • Phones and photography are not allowed in the game and should be left in the lockers.
  • Tickets can be booked online directly on the website.
  • There is a bar at the venue for drinks after the game or the venue is right in the heart of Camden market so there are plenty of places for food and drink nearby.
  • There is a waiver to sign for every member of the group before playing.
  • The experience lasts for around 90 minutes but you will be there for about 2 hours altogether.
  • There are toilets on site.

Accessibility

The experience would not be suitable for those with mobility issues due to the amount of physical activity required and the amount of steps and uneven surfaces. For other accessibility needs you can contact the experience directly.

Our Thoughts

We really enjoyed this game, I was super proud of myself for working out what was needed for a couple of puzzles and then solving them. Pip excelled at some of the physical challenges and even though she is fairly good at escape rooms, even if she wasn’t she would still have been able to assist in finding many of the stones. The actors were great and then story was quick paced with lots of twists and turns. We would definitely recommend this as a family activity for older children and teens.

We visited in November 2023 when Pip was 11.
