New Year in Cumbria

We had originally planned to be in Sweden for New Year at the Ice hotel but we weren’t able to get tickets on the overnight train and we just couldn’t get all the parts of the trip to fall in to place so we gave up on that idea and booked somewhere in Cumbria instead.

We really hit the jackpot with the place we ended up at (mostly by default as there weren’t many options left that fit all requirements and the dates we needed). The most beautiful log cabin with stunning views and a hot tub.

The cabin was just outside Alston or the border between Cumbria and Northumberland. We had a lovey week with walks around the local area, a visit to Keswick and a trip to Low and High Force waterfalls where we watched the kayakers going over the falls.

We managed to avoid the snow which would have been magical but also a nightmare for getting home but did get some wintery walks in wrapped up in many layers against the cold. I highly recommend a visit to the middle of nowhere for a reset ready for the new year!
