Fountains Abbey in the Fog

January does feel like it is dragging on forever in a dreary, grey and damp way but Pip and I managed to cheer up a rather mundane week with a visit to Fountains Abbey with our cameras.

We did a 5 mile walk around the grounds and 7 Bridges Valley in the mist which made everything seem very ethereal and atmospheric.

If there is one thing that Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal doesn’t have a lack, it’s pheasants and it did seem like we were there at the same time as some sort of pheasant convention, we saw hundreds. The other possibility is that it was the same 6 pheasants looping round to get ahead of us (not sure how you tell pheasants apart and not a name tag to be seen).
