Hexmoor Wizarding Prison

This was such a fun experience! Cocktails, immersive theatre and dress up.

Hexmoor is a Wizarding prison and you have been charged with wizarding crimes. Your first step is to put on your prison outfit and then you are allocated your cell. From then on you will be embroiled in wizarding chaos, solving mysteries, using your magic powers and meeting wizarding folk along the way.

The experience

The experience is based at the same venue as Alcotraz in Hoxton and is themed in the same prison style.

On arrival you will be allocated to a cell and served your included cocktails throughout the evening. At certain points there will be a performance of part of the story and you will need to return to your cell to watch, the rest of the time you are free to move around and interact with the actors. Some parts of the story happen away from your cell and you will be directed where to go for these parts by the actors.

You can interact as much or as little with the story as you wish, if you are simply observing, you will still have just as much fun. The story is fast moving and exciting enough to keep your interest through the time you are there.

The experience includes a set number of cocktails depending which ticket option you select.

The logistics

  • There are 3 different cocktails served in the basic ticket option, the other two ticket options include 4 cocktails (your group needs to all select the same ticket option).
  • Everyone is served the same cocktails, if you have an allergy or would like to drink mocktails instead then you let your bar tender know when you are seated in your cell. They were very good at ensuring all requirements were met.
  • The venue is wheelchair accessible.
  • There are no accessibility options for those who use BSL, have a hearing loss or have vision loss.
  • The experience is an over 18s only experience
  • Cells seat 5-6 people so if you are in a larger group you may be split in to different cells and if you are a smaller group you may be seated with other groups.
  • One of the ticket option includes a wand or you can add one on as an optional extra when buying your tickets, this isn’t needed for the performance although fun to have.
  • Some days there is just an evening session but on a Saturday there are several sessions to choose from during the day and evening.

Our thoughts

My sister and I booked an evening session and we really enjoyed the whole thing. I really loved that despite the fact that she drinks and I don’t we were still able to have the same experience and my mocktails were all an alcohol free version of what she was having, no boring soft drinks.

We also really enjoyed the interactivity and how fast moving the story was so we were always watching something, talking to the actors or getting whisked off to somewhere magical to look for clues! The fact that you also get a prison uniform to wear was also a massive bonus!

We would definitely recommend this as something a bit different when in London, especially if you a lover of wizarding worlds.
