Prison Island, London

The concept of Prison Island is ‘escape room meets crystal maze’ and is a lot of fun!

The experience

Prison Island has 31 cells, each with a different puzzle or game. The aim is to spent 90 minutes doing as many cells as possible and trying to gain as many points as possible.

You can do the cells as many times as you like during your session to try and get maximum points in each.

The game is either a physical activity, a puzzle or a brain teaser so if you are rubbish at one type of game there is always the opportunity to gain more points on the other rooms.

The cells have a light outside to indicate whether another group is inside or not, if the light is green then you are free to go inside and start the game. There are no instructions for the cells, so part of the fun is trying to work out what you are supposed to be doing. You do get a clue though. The cells can be done in any order.

There are screens in the corridor where you can scan your fob to see how many points you have, how many minutes you have left and where you stand in that day’s leader board if you are very competitive.

It’s then up to you how stuck in and competitive you want to get!

The logistics

  • On arrival you are given a lanyard with a key to a locker (to store all your belongings) and a fob to activate the rooms.
  • Lockers aren’t huge but will fit a backpack and coats, one locker per team.
  • Teams can be 2-5 people, if you have a bigger group than 5 then you will be split in to smaller teams.
  • You need a team name, this one is very important as we didn’t know and then panicked trying to think of the perfect name!
  • The minimum age for players is 7 and over 14s can play without an adult present.
  • Wear comfortable clothes as some of the cells are more physical than others.
  • The venue is wheelchair accessible but many of the cells are not.
  • Some rooms need at least 3 players, it’s worth taking this in to consideration when inviting friends to join you.

Our thoughts

We had so much fun doing this; we got frustrated, we solved puzzles, we repeated rooms several times until we could work out what we needed to do and at one point we lost each other in an empty room!!

This is definitely on our list of things to do again in London!

We visited in January 2026.
