Mothers Day Weekend Adventures

A whole weekend of adventures to round off this week.

First of all and most importantly, the sun came out this week!! It also rained, hailed and blew a hooley but we’re not going to talk about that.

Saturday was several adventures with my parents. For our first stop, we went to the open day of the fabulous company that made all the curtains and blinds in our house and I tried very hard not to spend any money. I do now have my eye on some wallpaper and I have fallen in love with some llama fabric!

Our second stop was at a pub that my parents have been talking about taking me to for years. The Carpenters Arms in Felixkirk is a proper country pub with friendly staff and we had a superb meal. Nothing on the menu had really jumped out when I had a look online before we went but the food was absolutely delicious! I had a Thai tofu dish from the specials menu and it was perfect. My parents 3 dogs were also welcomed in and even given their own bowl of water next to our table.

The third stop was almost aborted because of an almost apocalyptic hail storm but the sun came back out so we parked at the Sutton Bank Visitor Centre and took the dogs along the top towards Yorkshire Gliding Club where we watched the gliders taking off and landing.

Sunday was a day of weather, for my Mother’s Day I chose to drag Andy and Pip up Pen-y-Ghent, because why not? Unfortunately the weather decided to be constantly changeable so while damp when we set off, it was thick fog, sideways rain and wind that you could almost not stand up in by the time we got to the last climb up to the top. Sitting behind a wall, eating wet sandwiches, we decided not to be the reason that mountain rescue got called out and changed the route to take a different track back to the car.
