We finally made it to the first week of the Easter holidays and it was a busy one.
We should have been jetting off to Bahrain but instead we spent 4 nights exploring Sofia, Bulgaria and the surrounding area. We booked an easyJet package to make things easy and then booked tours to Plovdiv and Niš, Serbia as well as a food tour in Sofia and a visit to Red Flat. We were very lucky with the weather and had sunshine everyday although the mornings were still cold, we were told that the weekend after our visit they were expecting snow again.

It was so lovely to have some time away from work and other commitments and Sofia is a lovely city with some fabulous food.

One the way home from Gatwick airport, we stopped to see family in Derby and finally managed to get Pip a waterproof coat from the Rab outlet so she doesn’t get soaked on her Duke of Edinburgh walk in a few weeks. We also popped in to the Denby Pottery Village and had a lovely lunch, unfortunately as they have gone in to administration they are operating on a limited menu and limited staffing but we still had a brilliant lunch.
The final adventure for the week was a 5 mile circular walk from Byland Abbey near Thirsk. We somehow managed to catch the only 3 hours of the day when it wasn’t raining and even had to strip down to t-shirts at one point because the sun was so warm. A day of extremes we started with a drink in the Michelin star pub, The Abbey Inn next to Byland Abbey (it’s now on the list for a night away) and finished with a meal in the Weatherspoons in Thirsk!!
