Light Night – Leeds

For the past 17 years for 2 nights in October, Leeds City Centre has been lit up for Light Night.

Light Night is a series of Light Art installations around the city centre and slightly further out that invites visitors to explore, look and even touch.

The city is divided in to zones and each zone has a different theme, artist or exhibition.

In 2021 the Town Hall was lit up with lightning and you could have a turn at controlling the weather yourself.

Monsters with giant tentacles had taken over the Victoria Quarter.

Giant hanging flowers had taken over the church yard in St John the Evangelist’s church.

There was the most beautiful poem about Leeds coming together as one down Briggate.

The Earth was in the park opposite the First Direct Arena.

This was only a small snap shot of installations across the city centre.

This is a yearly event every October and well worth a visit. As well as the light trail there is also usually a fun fair outside Leeds Art Gallery. Bars and cafes staying open creates a great atmosphere and a real community feeling.
