Finding accommodation for groups is always a challenge but this cottage, nestled in the trees, just outside Bakewell is perfect for larger families or small groups of friends.
We booked the cottage to celebrate a big family birthday and it was perfect for what we needed it for. Helped by very un-British weather for August and glorious sunshine, we loved the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere with loads of outdoor space to enjoy the sunshine with the convenience of being a stone’s throw from Chatsworth House and Bakewell.

The Cottage:
The cottage has 4 double bedrooms and a twin room on the first floor. The master bedroom has an en-suite and the other 4 bedrooms share the family bathroom.

Downstairs there is living room, dining room with a large table and log burner, games room with pool table and table football and a toilet.

The kitchen is large and well equipped with a small seating area and patio doors to and outdoor seating area.
The outside has a huge table and hot tub on the patio area. There is a spacious parking area and as well as the lawned area in the garden there is also a fully enclosed dog field next door. The dog field is next to another field which is home to a miniature horse and a goat with a mind of his own (He was lovely but we did find him in our garden a couple of times), goat food is provided.

The cottage is accessed by a kilometre long drive which leads up to the cottage and a couple of other barn buildings that are currently not used. The cottage is next to another farm but there is no access through to the other farm. The drive is single track and not suitable for low profile cars. There are passing places on the driveway.
Useful to know:
- The cottage is dog friendly and there was even a goody basket of things for the dogs provided including treats and poo bags. The dog field is fully enclosed although the garden is not.
- There is no lock on the family bathroom so the house possibly suits a group who are more comfortable with sharing facilities. The only shower is in the master bedroom, the family bathroom has shower attachment over the freestanding bath.
- Due to the length of the drive you need your own transport for this accommodation.
- The cottage has good wifi.

Food:
The cottage is self catering and there are shops and supermarkets nearby in Bakewell. There is also a fabulous farm shop at Chatsworth House. There are also several amazing pubs in the area and a variety of restaurant options in nearby Bakewell.
Nearby:
Chatsworth House is a short drive away and it is possible to walk there from the cottage. Chatsworth grounds are beautiful and free to enter (there is a charge for car parking). The Courtyard at Chatsworth has some fabulous shops and a lovely cafe/ restaurant that is well worth a visit.

Bakewell is the closest Peak District town to the cottage. It is a traditional Peak District town with plenty of shops and places to eat. There are some fabulous outdoor clothing shops, a traditional sweet shop and of course several options for the traditional Bakewell pudding and tart.

There are several other nearby villages so lots of options for things to do.
The cottage can be found on Airbnb here.
We visited in August 2022 when Pip was 10.
