God’s Own Junkyard – Walthamstow, London

God’s Own Junkyard is a neon museum, gallery, shops and cafe all in one. You can choose to visit just to see the neon signs or you can stay a little longer for a bite to eat. When we visited a wedding party was just leaving after a photo shoot, which would have made for some very cook wedding photos. We spent our time there exploring the neon signs, taking photos and having lunch.(please note you are able to take photos for personal use on your phone but not on a DSLR without prior permission for a photo shoot).

Where is it?

God’s Own Junkyard is on a small industrial estate in Walthamstow. There are several other businesses in the same area including quite a few bars, breweries and even a gin palace.

We took the tube to Walthamstow Central and then did the 15 minute walk to Ravenswood Industrial Estate. The walk takes you through a residential area and past some lovely independent shops and cafes and felt very safe.

If you are coming by car, there is parking on the industrial estate although it was very busy when we were there.

Opening times

God’s Own Junkyard is open weekends only; Friday – 11am to 10pm, Saturday – 11am to 10pm and Sunday – 11am to 6pm. The cafe and bar is open all weekend. Outside of these times it can be booked for private events.

If you are planning to visit, make sure you check their website in advance as they are occasionally closed for private events.

Rolling Scones cafe/ bar

The cafe/ bar sells hot and cold drinks, a selection of alcoholic beverages and sandwiches, cakes and some cooked food. I had a delicious avocado and poached egg on toast. Food was freshly cooked so there was a little wait. They do offer an afternoon tea which I think needs to be booked in advance and if you are heading there and want to make sure you have a table then you can book in advance.

Accessibility

God’s Own Junkyard is all on one level although due to the layout, smaller rooms and areas with lots of neon signs and other items it may not be fully accessible for someone using a wheelchair or mobility scooter. The toilet is also not a disabled toilet.

Other than that it is just signs to look at so no information to read or access.

Is it family friendly?

Yes and no! Children are very welcome but some of the neon signs are a bit sweaty so it depends how you feel about that. The area is also a bar in the evenings so wouldn’t be child friendly.

A neon sign that reads 'Alright Sausage'.

  1. This place is so cool, it’s been on my want-to-visit list for a while. I need to make the effort to make the journey next time I’m in London. Sex, Drugs and Bacon Rolls made me smile!
