Hedgehogs Retreat Caravan and Camping – Akeley, Bukinghamshire

Hedgehogs Retreat is just outside Akeley in a beautiful and peaceful spot. We had one night there and picked it as a perfect location for visiting Bletchley Park which is only about 30 minute drive away.

The campsite is a Camping and Caravan Club Certificated Site but we booked directly with them through Facebook. It’s a family run site and super friendly, we were welcomed as soon as we drove through the gate with some helpful information about where to set up and what was close by.

The facilities are basic, no showers or electric hook up but there are toilets and waste points and water.

The best part of the campsite isn’t it’s peaceful location or the friendly welcome but the resident alpaca named Albert and miniature horse named Bella. Both are very friendly and Albert definitely looked like he wanted to join in with a kick about that someone else was having.

Around the campsite

The campsite is just outside the village of Akeley and within a 15 minute walk of The Bull and Butcher Pub where we had an excellent meal. Their menu looks like it changes monthly and they have various 2 for 1 type offer nights throughout the week. We had a lovely walk down to the pub for a meal but it’s worth noting that some of the walk does not have footpaths which was fine on a lovely summer evening but might not be so easy on a darker night.

There are several National Trust Properties nearby, Bletchley Park is a 30 minute drive away and we saw a flyer at the campsite for local bike hire.

We stayed in July 2022 for one night and paid £10 per night.
